Trying out KORG's software synths the hard way
∞I am currently looking for synthesizer that suits me 1 and came across the KORG modwave sort of by accident. I was also looking at the Sequential Take 5 and various other things, but after looking at them for a while I was wondering if maybe a digital synth is something I should try.
So here we are!
- korg software pass -> wine offline
- lots of trying -> forum post from 2020 and older, no luck
- windows vm -> works but really slow
- but wait, where’s the binary?
- qcow mounting …
- it’s just… there
- and works! (sort of)
- lots of trying, in the end saw
dxgi_output_WaitForVBlankfixme - plus earlier searches turned up
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dxgi=n", which points to proton - get dxgi.dll from your local
dealersteam proton install - it fucking works, neat!
Difficult! So far the only success I had is the “buy and try” strategy, but given that it can take a while to figure out if an instrument “works” for myself… That means spending a bunch of money.
