The little german tofu compendium
∞I’ve started making notes on the tofu that the various supermarkets in germany sell. Please pass along any other hints you might have.
- Rewe Bio Natur Tofu:
- very hard/solid
- probably nice for cake and other things that need structure/stability (e.g. cheese cake)
- Kaufland Natur Tofu:
- pretty soft
- nice for fried soy-sauce marinated tofu
- good for scrambled tofu, e.g. with soy cream and “kala namak” salt
- also very nice for miso-style soups
- Aldi smoked tofu
- pretty hard, a bit chewy
- almost like their “aufstrich”
- Alnatura smoked tofu
- almost no smoky taste
- very bland, i.e. very little salt
- Rossmann smoked tofu
- very similar to the Alnatura one, almost seems the same
